I am speechless. How does this happen?

The bear attacks the woman during feeding time at the zoo.
One adult polar bit her several times after she plunged into the moat, police said.
Zoo workers tossed rescue rings toward the woman to hoist her out and distract polar bears swimming nearby, said Goerg Gebhard, a Berlin police officer.
“They saved her life,” Gebhard told CNN.
The woman was severely injured and was being treated at a hospital, police said.
It’s unclear why the woman entered the bear habitat, but police issued her a citation for trespassing.

I’m a bit bothered by the picture- I think it kinda looks like Sonja or I… On GMA they reported the incident and the discussion was whether zoos were keeping exhibits safe enough. PUH-LEEZE! The chick had to scale a fence and climb through a prickly hedge because she felt like taking a swim. With polar bears. When do people have to take responsiblity for their actions? The reported ended saying after she is released from the hospital, she was going to be admitted for psychiatric evaluation- YA THINK??
Polar bears aren’t mean when viewed behind bars. They cannot get to you. If you jump the rails and squeeze in to get to the pool, a polar bear might bite you but you have to want to be bitten first, then enter the caged area. Once in the pool and in the bears breath, you will be bitten if not killed.
All the polar bears I ever saw at a zoo belonged to the same Union. In the by-laws it states that Polar Bears being good members of the zoo, have the ability to protect their ponds, and food. All of them have followed the laws. I notice most people observe this philosophy of the Polar bears and stay on their side of the fence lines and do not cross into territory.
I suspect the lady didn’t see the fence, doesn’t know what a fence is, and thought Polar Bears are cuddly and cute. Never mind they eat meat daily. Seals are a favorite, Humans are good too.
Bingo. How did this happen? It’s rare, but sometimes an idiot with a large amount of determination can actually get something accomplished.
