Grand Rapids and Rosa Parks – A One Way Love Affair

I don’t get our town. We have a park named after Rosa Parks.

Why?

I know she is important historically. Very important in southern and historically racist areas. Grand Rapids really is not one of those to me.

Now please understand I am not bashing her, I am bashing our city leaders that feel the need to have a Rosa Parks Circle in downtown. It doesn’t make any sense, she’s never been to Grand Rapids, she’s never done anything even related to Grand Rapids yet she gets a park? And from what I remember when we had the park opening I believe she was invited and turned it down, most likely due to her age at the time or maybe she didn’t understand it either and thought some town was messing with her good name.

And now this happens, now Grand Rapids has decided to drop $350,000 on a statue of a lady who has never been here.

Make it of Obama, at least he’s been to downtown GR. And in some ways I think he is even more historically elevant and important.
